Scholarships Help Prepare the Next Generation

ACEA has been awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors since 2004. Students pursuing a career in civil engineering or construction are eligible for a $2,000 scholarship with the potential of an additional $2,000 for each subsequent college year if they maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

KATHRYN ROTH
Kathryn Roth is a graduate of Anderson High School and is already well-versed in civil engineering. Both of her parents are civil engineers and have nurtured her interest in the field. She participated in the Anderson High School STEM Practicum Program and completed an internship gaining exposure to hydrologic and hydraulic engineering projects in Texas. In the future, Kathryn wants to design and build sustainable development projects that protect our natural environment while improving the availability of affordable and high-quality housing. Her volunteer experiences have given her first-hand knowledge of the challenges people in our community are facing. She believes that combining engineering skills with compassion for people can make a difference.

PEARCE QUINN
Pearce plans to pursue a career in Construction Management. He graduated from Hays High School and has had a love for building things since he was a young boy. It all started with a set of Legos. Pearce’s family has gone through some challenging times, but he finds the silver lining in a situation. Instead of resenting a long daily commute, he learned to appreciate the quality time spent with his mother while making that daily drive. He has had to face foot surgery multiple times and his only lament is that he’ll never be a foot model. None of those life situations got him down and he maintained his grades. He truly believes that a person can choose to look at a situation as a challenge or openly embrace the opportunity to grow.

Clarence Vinklarek Memorial Scholarship

ACEA recently said goodbye to co-founder Clarence Vinklarek. Clarence was a well-known and respected contractor who was one of the driving forces behind the formation of the ACEA. In his honor, the board voted to name a scholarship in his honor. Going forward, the Clarence Vinklarek Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student, or students, pursuing a degree in Construction Management or Construction Science. Pearce Quinn is the first recipient of the Clarence Vinklarek Memorial Scholarship Award. Members of the Vinklarek family were on-hand to accept the honor and to meet Pearce.

ACEA is dedicated to empowering the next generation of civil engineering and construction professionals. Check out our Student Resources for more info on scholarships, events, and educational videos.
