2011 BBQ Social
“Smokin' Success!”

The smell of BBQ was in the air recently at our third annual BBQ Social & Cook-Off! What a success! The Community Involvement Committee, chaired by Robert Allison, pulled off yet another great event. “These BBQ’s just get better and better,” claimed Jimmy Cobb with Insurance Network of Texas.
It was all about networking and eating - and we did lots of both. Over 125 attendees enjoyed samples of BBQ cooked by 11 teams throughout Friday and Saturday at the VFW Hall. Friday night we had live music by The Travis Kings’ Band, washer and horseshoe competitions, raffles, lots of laughter, lots of eating, and of course lots of drinking going on. Oh, and how can we forget the Margarita Competition – or maybe we should!!!
The categories were brisket, ribs, chicken, veggies/desserts, and a jackpot which could be anything cooked on the grill or smoker. Everyone had a chance to vote on their favorite. The votes were tallied by the Pit Boss Gals and 15 trophies were awarded! The winners are listed below. The Pit Boss Gals, Kim Carrillo, Sarah Dunn-Cantu, and Kimber McDermott, did an awesome job overseeing all the teams, the raffles, the judging, and taking care of everyone and everything!
A great time was had by all! Brush up on your BBQ recipes, plan on signing up for next year’s BBQ, and be part of the fun! And don’t worry, What happens at the BBQ stays at the BBQ!
